Parent Support and Coaching

Counseling Service near meFirst I would like to start by defining my use of the word “parent”. Parents come in many combinations, and some children have several parents. I use the term to refer to anyone taking on the responsibility of raising a child from a biological parent, a guardian, an adoptive parent, step-parent, to extended family. Parenting is inclusive and refers to the person(s) who is are entrusted with raising a child.

I have a passion for, and specialize in working with and coaching parents. The work I do with parents is designed not only to teach new skills and techniques, but to provide a safe place to get support, have a place to vent, and get relief from what can be a very difficult yet rewarding responsibility and privilege. One area of focus is to help parents in creating a structure in their household that encourages stability and trust, and fosters effective and nurturing interactions that lead to a connected family environment. A key factor is identifying the morals and values you want to teach and model to set as the foundation for your children and family. Building a solid foundation from which to work is essential in setting up a successful journey as a family.

Truthfully, there is no perfect parent. However if you parent with respect and humility, you can be a good parent setting good examples for your children teaching them valuable life lessons preparing them to launch. Don’t be surprised if you learn a thing or two from your kids and how rich and rewarding that can be. Most of all, my hope is to help families navigate rough waters so they can focus on the joys of each day.

Some common issues of focus for parents are:

  • First time parent support, postpartum depression
  • Teaching and discipline
  • Parenting skills specific to child’s developmental phase
  • Navigating the adolescent and teen years
  • Building a supportive and positive alliance with those involved with parenting your child
  • Support for parents with special needs child
  • Co-Parenting for separated or divorced parents
  • Launching, college, independence
  • Respect, acceptance, and positive regard in creating family culture
